 COVID- 19 Questions

Do I need to do a lateral flow before I come?

A lateral flow test is not a condition of entry, however out of curtesy of your fellow Superheroes, Sidekicks & SUPER Supporters we would appreciate if you to do a lateral flow test before attending.

Do I need to wear a mask/face covering?

This SUPER event is all outdoors with lots of space so you are not required to wear a face covering, it is completely up to you.

We encourage face coverings if you find yourself in close proximity to your fellow participants.

How are Superhero Series making the event COVID safe?

As mentioned Winter Wonderwheels powered by MARVEL is a completely outdoor event with lots of open space and social distancing opportunities.

We also have a dedicated team of Sidekicks armed with wipes & hand gels dotted around the event, we call them our SUPER Sanitising Sidekicks!

The questions you may be too afraid to ask!

Where and how do I put on my race numbers?

When you come to registration on the event day, we’ll give you a race number with safety pins to position wherever it's clearly visible, for example, chest, back, or vehicle. Some participants may choose to bring their own race belt to secure their numbers in place. This is fine as long as your number is clearly visible from the back or front.

If I don’t complete my challenge, will I still get a Super Kit Bag (goody bag), T-shirt and medal?

Absolutely. Anyone who steps up to the challenge and tries their best will be justly applauded and rewarded.

Do Sidekicks, who are assisting Superheroes on the course, also get a finisher’s medal, T-shirt and Super Kit Bag?

Yes they do! You just need to make sure you sign up everyone – including all Sidekicks – as team members when you book, as only those registered as part of the team will be allowed on the course on the day.

Will there be disabled toilets and will any of them have hoists?

Yes, there will be plenty of disabled access toilets and one Mobiloo toilet with a hoist and changing area.

Our Superhero Series terminology

Everyday Superhero: Put simply, an ‘Everyday Superhero’ is someone who considers themselves to have a disability and signs up to take on one of our challenges. We salute you!

Sidekick: In its most general sense it refers to anyone who is on hand to assist our Superheroes and give them the best day possible. There are two main types of Sidekick: 1. Anyone who comes along to support their Superhero friend or family member by assisting, guiding, pushing or simply accompanying them around the course during a challenge; 2. Our fantastic and indispensable legion of volunteers (please do sign up and join them!)

Disability: When we talk about people with disabilities, we mean anyone who considers themselves to have any kind of physical, sensory, intellectual, invisible or behavioural disability, or anyone with a long-term illness or injury. Don’t worry, no one will be asking for proof or details and no classifications are needed.

On the day

How long should I arrive before my challenge starts?

We recommend arriving at least an hour before your start time to give you plenty of time to unload kit, park up, head over to registration to sign in and grab your race number, then have your warm up and safety briefing before the race starts.

Where do I need to go when I arrive?

Head straight to Mission HQ to register. There’ll be clear signs marking the way.

Will there be drop off areas for my kit?

Yes, we’ll have a ‘meet and greet’ area where you’re welcome to drive up & drop any equipment with volunteers near the hub while you head off to park.

What should I wear?

You are welcome to wear whatever feels comfortable – masks, capes and plenty of festive sparkle are also very much encouraged! Due to the time of year, we recommend bringing plenty of layers to ensure you keep warm, plus waterproofs just in case… A top tip is to write your name (Superhero alter ego or real) somewhere prominent, so spectators can give you a personal shout-out for extra encouragement!

Equipment and safety

What equipment do I need?

Our ethos is ‘anything goes’ and we’ll do our best to allow any equipment you might need on the course. Check out our equipment page for more details. However, there are a few essentials:

– If you are using some kind of vehicle – adaptive bike, wheelchairs, etc. – it will need to be in a roadworthy condition, with brakes in good working order.

– People travelling on wheels at high speed must wear a helmet. We recommend that everyone on wheels wears a helmet for their safety but we know that this isn’t always practical.

Will there be water provided on the course?

There will be water stations along our 5km and 10km challenges, and water will be provided for all Superheroes and course Sidekicks at the finish line.

I would like to use an adaptive cycle for the challenge. Where can I hire one?

Our fantastic bike partner GET CYCLING has all kinds of fun, adapted cycles available to hire. We recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

Will there be emergency services on site?

Absolutely. Your safety is our priority. There will be a medical team on site all day to provide medical assistance if needed.

What are the courses like?

The three courses follow largely flat routes on private, traffic-free tarmacked pathways/roads. The challenges will be clearly signposted and our super Sidekick volunteers will be stationed along the way to encourage, direct, answer questions or assist in any way needed.
